Mr. Valentine Ike Okafor is the Registrar of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana. He was appointed on January 1, 2014, by the Seventh Governing Council of the Polytechnic.

Mr Val IK Okafor, 55, is a native of Umuhu-Okabia Community in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (Second-Class Upper) in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Broadcasting (a Specialized Field of Mass Communication) from Imo State University, Okigwe, Nigeria. He also holds another Master’s degree in Public Administration (with Merit) obtained from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, United Kingdom.

Mr. Okafor is a multi-skilled, top-flight administrator with over 28 years cognate experience in Polytechnic Administration and Public Relations Practice. Before his appointment, Mr. Okafor was Deputy Registrar and Head of Records Unit in the Registry Division of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana.

He joined the service of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana in 1991 as Assistant Registrar and rose through the ranks to become Senior Assistant Registrar (1994), Principal Assistant Registrar (1997) and Deputy Registrar (2005), a position he held before his appointment as Registrar.

During his administrative career, Mr. Okafor served as Head, Public Relations Unit (1991-1994); Head, Admissions Unit (1994-1997); Head Senior Staff Establishment (1997-2000); Head, Records Unit (2000-2003); Head, Exams Unit (2003-2005); Head, Public Relations Unit (2005-2008); Head, Governing Council Office (2008-2010) and Head, Records Unit (2012-2013).

Mr. Okafor had attended numerous training programmes, seminars and workshops in Leadership and Management in Nigeria, Dubai and the United Kingdom. He also has many seminar papers and publications to his credit.

Mr. Okafor is a member of many professional bodies including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria and the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM). He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Administration. He is happily married with children.
