COMMENCEMENT OF THE PAY-AS-YOU-GO BUS SERVICES FOR POLYTECHNIC STAFF APPROVED BY MANAGEMENT TO REPLACE THE EXPIRED TRANSPORT PALLIATIVE IN THE POLYTECHNIC

I write to inform you that with the expiration of the Free Bus Services (Transport Palliative) on Monday 11 September, 2023, Management at its Extra-Ordinary Meeting  held on Tuesday, 5th September, 2023 approved the commencement of the Pay-As-You-Go Bus Service for Polytechnic Staff at the subsidized fare of Two Hundred (N200.00) Naira per trip with effect from Tuesday, 12 September, 2023

The Payment of the subsidized fare of N200.00 per trip for staff is to enable Management to cushion the high cost of diesel and maintenance of the buses.

Management’s decision to provide the Pay-As-You-Go Bus Service at the end of the Transport Palliative is to consolidate on the excellent benefits of punctuality and regularity to work by Polytechnic Staff recorded during the period of the Transport Palliative.

In view           of the fact that the Polytechnic Staff Primary and Secondary Schools have re-opened for the new term, the separate bus schedules for both Staff School Pupils/Students and Polytechnic Staff are as follows:

  1. First Trip Departure Time (Morning). Staff School Pupils/Students – 6:30 am
  2. First Trip Departure Time (Morning). Polytechnic Staff – 7:30 am
  • Return Trip Departure Time (Afternoon). Staff School Pupils/Students – 2:00pm/3:00pm
  1. Return Trip Departure Time (Evening). Polytechnic Staff – 4:00pm

All commuting staff are required to pay cash to the Designated Officer of the Bus Management Committee at the point of entry into the bus

Commuting Staff should note the approved bus schedules, respect and strictly comply with them as no staff will be allowed entry into the bus during the bus trip allotted to the Staff School Pupils/Students.

The pickup point for staff during the first trip (morning) remains Amuro Roundabout Bus Stop, Afikpo. The Drop-Off points for Staff on arrival at the Polytechnic Campus are Administrative Building Car Park for Staff in the Administrative Zone and the Student Hostel Roundabout for Staff in the Academic Zone.

During the Period of the Transport Palliative, Management received several complaints about staff who left their duty post before 4:00 pm in order to queue at the pick-up points so as to enter the buses. Management expressed displeasure over the actions of such staff and warns that disciplinary action will be taken against any staff who engages in such misconduct in the future.

All commuting staff are expected to conduct themselves in a very orderly and civil manner and refrain from any form of abuse of the bus services during the Pay-As-You-Go Bus Services in the Polytechnic.
